When Mikes cat is sleeping...
I don't think there is anyone, at least not in the Czech Republic, who doesn't know Josef Lada and his works. His drawings have always evoked good emotions in me. I love his books, illustrations, and among my favorites were the ones about Mikes.
“About Mikes Cat" is an irreverent book that anyone who reads the first few pages will love. Who hasn't heard of Mikes? The black cat lived in Hrusice at Ševců family and Pepík got along with him the best. Together they played many funny stunts and pranks, never missing their friends Pašík and Bobes, and later also the cute Nácíček. When Mikeš went out into the world, he had many adventures on the road and in the circus, where he stayed for a while. But everywhere is good, home is the best, and so the little cat returned to give joy to all children.
This image was so strangely created without my conscious awareness, and rather there was a kind of tension that stirred up in me, which arranges feelings induced by something ... and this time it was illness and reaching for the children's books. I have only the most beloved ones at hand. And so I began to imagine where Mikes cat and his friends might be ... and so I think they are here, in these houses, sleeping soundly, and that when they wake up in the morning they will go out to play again, just as Lada has so beautifully portrayed them. They will play forever in his Lada winter and I with them.
